Tour “Diverse Love” Thyssen Museum private
Diverse Love, another way to admire the collection
Diverse love has been a taboo subject throughout history, but it is very much present in art. We take you on a fascinating privately guided tour through a selection of 16 works that will allow you to discover the themes, iconography and characters of the LGBTQ experience in the history of art. Diverse Love proposes a journey from Bronzino to Hockney with a different look to address concepts such as identity and sexual orientation.
Tour with a private guide for approximately one hour in which we will follow the organisation of the museum’s collection based on the chronology and cultural spheres of Western art.
The first part of the tour focuses on the Old Masters, mainly from the Renaissance to the end of the 19th century. The iconography of the works together with the artists’ own lives is revealed as a way to understand sensibilities, identities and non-normative desires not only from a sensual but also from a social perspective.
The second part explores how these ways of feeling and thinking are defined by the development of modern societies. From the birth of the contemporary conception of homosexuality and the importance of the spaces of freedom provided by the big cities, to gender identity and the lack of a lesbian iconography of its own, the works show us a diversity of personal experiences framed in an environment that will become, with ups and downs, increasingly permissive. In the articulation of these sexual, affective and social demands, art will play a very active role.
