At The Queer Travel, we had the privilege of participating in the LGBT+ International Famtour in Mato Grosso do Sul, an experience organized by the state’s Tourism Foundation as part of the LGBT+ Turismo Expo 2025. This trip allowed us to witness firsthand how the region is establishing itself as one of Brazil’s most prominent inclusive destinations for the LGBTIQ+ community.

A famtour to showcase the most inclusive side of the Pantanal

For three days, we explored Corumbá, the gateway to the Pantanal, enjoying activities designed to showcase the potential of LGBT tourism in the region. Among the experiences we enjoyed:

  • Cruise through the Pantanal with an inclusive and safe atmosphere.

  • Historical and cultural tour of downtown Corumbá, with visits to museums and heritage sites.

  • Tasting of local cuisine, from pintado al urucum to jacaré coxinha.

  • River safari to observe the unique biodiversity of the Pantanal.

  • Music and dance performances that highlight the cultural identity of Mato Grosso do Sul.

A genuine commitment to LGBT tourism in Brazil

Mato Grosso do Sul not only promotes its natural beauty but has also been actively working for over five years to establish itself as a benchmark for LGBT tourism in Brazil. The state has implemented awareness campaigns, training for service providers, development of inclusive tourism products, and consistent participation in international fairs.

In 2025, the central theme of the LGBT+ Turismo Expo was “LGBT+ Families,” reflecting a growing market: an increase in same-sex marriages and greater visibility of diverse families in the Brazilian tourism landscape.

Results and international outlook

Our participation in the famtour confirmed that the goal is clear: to attract more international visitors through inclusive travel packages that combine nature, culture, and hospitality. Mato Grosso do Sul presents itself as a destination where anyone, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, can travel with peace of mind and feel welcome.
